B2B SaaS SEO

B2B SaaS has a specific search problem: a buying committee that searches in four incompatible languages, pipeline that arrives through comparison and integration pages rather than blog posts, and a six to nine month cycle that breaks most attribution. I work on that context, then point you at the work that fits it.

Overview

What is B2B SaaS SEO?

B2B SaaS SEO is search work shaped by a long, committee-led purchase rather than an individual transaction. Four or five people evaluate the product (a champion, an economic buyer, a security or procurement reviewer, an end user, sometimes the owner of an existing internal system) and they search in incompatible language: capability questions, pricing, SOC 2 and data residency, migration effort, integration support. A single page rarely serves more than one of them well.

The page classes that produce pipeline are consequently not the blog. Comparison, alternatives, integration, use-case and role pages carry commercial intent and convert at multiples of editorial content. Motion matters too: a product-led company can read signups within days, while a sales-led company waits two quarters for a closed deal and needs attribution built to survive that gap. That tooling is CRM-side rather than analytics-side, and it has to be in place before the program starts rather than argued for at the first quarterly review.

Who it's for

You probably need this if…

  • 01You rank for your own category term and lose every comparison, alternatives and integration search.
  • 02Security review stalls deals and your site has nothing a reviewer can read on their own.
  • 03Your blog gets the traffic, your pricing page gets the pipeline, and budget follows the traffic.
  • 04Marketing cannot prove content influence because the deal closed eight months after the first visit.

What makes B2B SaaS search different

The buying committee

The champion searches for capability, the economic buyer for pricing and ROI, security for SOC 2, penetration testing and data residency, the end user for how something is actually done. Content built for the champion alone stalls in procurement, and most SaaS sites have no page at all for the reviewer who quietly kills deals.

Product-led versus sales-led

A product-led motion wants high-volume use-case, template and free-tool content that ends in a signup, and can read results in weeks. A sales-led motion wants fewer, heavier pages aimed at a shortlist decision, and measures influence on opportunities. The same keyword list serves both badly, and deciding which one you are is the first strategic call.

Commercial page classes

Comparisons, alternatives, integrations, use cases and role pages are where the pipeline sits. They are also where most SaaS sites are thinnest, because they are uncomfortable to write: naming competitors, publishing pricing, admitting what the product does not do. That discomfort is exactly why the search results are winnable, and why they stay winnable for longer than a blog topic does.

Attribution over a long cycle

A six to nine month cycle outlives cookies, session windows and most dashboards. Useful measurement is CRM-side: first-touch and influenced-opportunity reporting, self-reported attribution on the demo form, and the content read before a deal closed. Last-click will tell you that content does nothing, and on a nine-month cycle last-click will be wrong every single time.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you only work with SaaS companies?

No. A good deal of my work is enterprise commerce and multi-market sites. B2B SaaS has its own page because the buying committee and the sales cycle change the answers enough to be worth writing down, not because it is all I do.

Should we build comparison pages naming competitors?

Usually yes, and legal will usually resist. Those searches happen whether you rank for them or not, and today a review site or a competitor owns them. Accurate, sourced and maintained comparisons hold up. Vague ones do not, and unfair ones age badly.

Can programmatic pages work without being thin?

They work when each page carries something genuinely different (real integration behaviour, real limits, real setup steps pulled from your documentation). They fail when a template swaps one noun. The test is whether a page would still be useful if nobody searched for it.

How do we prove this to a CFO in month three?

Mostly you do not, and I would rather say that up front. What exists at month three is leading evidence: rankings on commercial terms, demo requests from those pages, and influenced opportunities in the CRM. Closed revenue arrives when the sales cycle allows it.
